Just found this thread, and WOW. GREAT WORK! the tank looks amazing. I would love to see some recent pics of it.

Also that picture frame tank looks BA as well. I've always wanted to do something like that.

I had a bad run of algae issues with this tank which is why I haven't posted any recent pics. It's starting to come around so maybe I'll have to get the camera out again. It needs another couple of weeks to fill in again. I really hacked it way back.

Sorry if it offends anyone, but this thread is intended to be a journal of my 180g tank. As such, I'm exercising a bit of 'Administrative privilege' to move photos of other people's tanks to their own threads.

I'll get some new photos up soon.

Bryce,

I'm still enamored with the Laegenandra. Where did you find it? And do you believe it can handle a more low-maintenance lifestyle?

I'm not sure how it would fare in a low-tech type setup. I do know that it absolutely thrives in the conditions that exist in the 180g. I just wish all the other plants would wake up and behave like I know they should.

I throw enough of it away that I can easily send you some if you want to try it.

I just put some Lagenandra thwaitsii in the tank today. It will be interesting to see what it does.

If you have clippings, I'm definitely interested in buying some off you!

So here's a couple of update photos. They're a little grainy. Getting anything better out of my current camera is probably not going to happen.

I've been trying to develop a better sense of depth. The right side is coming along. Some hardscape elements would help immensely. Some of the plants were trimmed not too long ago. They won't be great for a couple of weeks. Really getting this collection of plants into top form simultaneously in a tank this size requires phenomenal amounts of attention.

There are still some algae issues, but overall they're much improved now that I'm back on top of my fert & maintenance plan.

I'm thinking some large rock elements might help. We'll see.

BTW, the red plants in the right midground are both Polygonums. The one on the right is P. sp. 'Kawagoeanum' and the one on the left is P. sp. 'Sao Paulo' mixed with a bit of P. hydropiperoides.

Wow, simply stunning. I was just re-reading this journal and clicked back on my user cp and you had posted an update! What did you do with the manzanita that was in here? I missed why you took it out. Truthfully, that giant sword (?) in the middle is the purplest and the most massive sword that I have ever seen. IMO, I think that it is just too big, even for a 180. It gives a good place for my eyes to rest, but it seems to take away for me. I know how you sword nuts are but I figured I'd poke in my opinion. I hope you don't mind.
But you are right, it needs some hardsape or something. It sure seems dutch though . I'm not exactly sure on what kind of rock though, for a tan this big. What are you thinking of?
