That monstrous plant in the middle isn't a sword, it's a Lagenandra meeboldii 'Pink'. It's actually about 1/4 of what was in there a couple of weeks ago. Yes, it is still a bit too big. From what I've heard, it doesn't usually get this big.

I don't really like swords either.

Your tank is very nice. Ive skimmed through every page, an Im very impressed. The dedication you have, in getting it to where it is today is inspiring. Adding rocks may help break it up, but in my opinion, doesnt need anything. The texture an colors of all the plants is enough. I was glad to see the wood go. The Congos look great.

It's looking really good Bryce! I'm sure that it does take a lot of attention as you have said, but it's clear that you've been giving it the attention it needs.

Your tank is wonderful! Looks like you have gotten over the hump with your tank issues! Great work! I can't imagine what you went through with this tank. I have been looking for Poly. hydropiperoides and there it is in your tank! Love how you have staged the three together. Your other Polygonums are a perfect example of the difference between Sao Paulo and Kawagoenum. You should post that last px in this thread...

I'm looking at your two toninas and see the wonderful growth all the way from the bottom to the top. The bottom leaves of both my stands don't look that good. The bottom third tends to melt and sluff off. I have just recently upped my dosing of macros and micros. I am wondering if that will help. Just trimmed them and replanted. Any ideas for me?

I agree with you that some big hardscape pieces will help with the depth issue. It's hard when you only have plants to get your depth perception. The problem will be that you will have to give up some planting room. That's so hard. Of course I am sure when you are looking at the tank in person it has plenty of depth. It's just hard to appreciate it in the pictures.

Your Lagenandra meeboldii 'Pink' is a beautiful plant. As you say it is quite large. It just seems to take your eye immediately there. If it were in a corner where you could have things on three sides, do you think that would help? I always love the large beautiful plants - then they get too big and I end up giving them up and moving on. I hate to do it because I have taken care of them so long to get them that big, they have become my friends. The good news is that it helps me to try new plants and keeps me moving forward....

Bryce, it looks great! This is the type of tank/set-up which really could use a camera with selective focus capabilities. I'd love to see close up slices of each tank area and there plants therein.

The stupid autofocus is my biggest issue with my current camera. It has a manual focus feature but it's so hard to use that it isn't practical. I've got my eyes on a "real" setup, but it's going to have to wait a while.

As far as the Toninas go, to be fair, I had uprooted and replanted a few days before this photo was taken. The lower portions of the fluv. always look a bit rough. It helps to put something short in front to hide the ugly parts. The 'Belem' really seems to like this tank. It's always in top form and grows like an absolute weed, even through the issues that killed off several other plants recently. I keep the KH around 3. That probably helps.

Someday when I get an excess of time & energy I'll try some hardscape elements again. You do loose planting space, but that's the reason to start with a big tank isn't it?

About the meeboldii, I'm not sure what to do. Everyone thinks it's enormous. You should have seen it before I removed 2/3 of it! It'll probably end up in a back corner somewhere. I'll probably try to trim the taller leaves off as they come up. It might be manageable that way.

On a positive note, I managed to kill off nearly my entire stand of Rotala 'Vietnam'. I kept a few little nubs and to my great astonishment, two months later, they've actually responded with a few new shoots. With any luck I'll be back in business in another few months.
