Default • Our 770g. AP Project •

Hello everyone,
I'm new to APC but have enjoyed reading a lot of useful information already. I am impressed and inspired by all the beautiful Planted setups i've seen so far on this site.

We are restarting our Aquarium project after having to put it on standby last year due to a few bumps in the road that life throws at you.

Well so, where are we now? Our orginal plans for this tank was to be a SW display. To make a long story short, this was no longer going to be the plan and we have decided to make this a "Artistcally designed" Planted tank hosting Discus. As for the specifics of the type of plants? Thats why i'm here.

Here's a semi-chronilogical order of some pix of how our 770-gallon Aquarium has unfolded so far.
Measurements are: 120"l x 36"w x 48"h

Here's the original site before the dust started flying.

Construction moving along...

Drywall & Texture.

The room on the backside before the wall teardown.

Tiling the display room side of the aquarium.

Her delivery. The pug came free with it.

Wife giving her the lookover while murmering something about insanity...

The fellas helping to bring her inside the house....around the house!

The stand (now powdercoated) gets delivered in through the kitchen nook first.

Almost there with the stand and top

The stand is in. Fellas taking a break.

Now for the big 1200lb girl! took approx 12-14 people to bring her in safely.

Going over the game plan to lift her in. We ended up not using the materials lift...that would make it to easy.

Our aquarium makes it to its final destination.

Another shot of the display room side.

Another front shot.

Backroom pix.

Another backroom pix. I'm standing where I'll have the aux tanks.

Our pugs enjoying an empty tank at the moment

Full shot from the kitchen-nook area.

I will be working on the carpentry work & staining that will be framing around the aquarium. lots of work to be done still so I will update asap.
Thanks

Default Maybe found our Center-Piece Driftwood? We'll see...

Whew! Wife and I just got back from hiking up north this afternoon so were pretty tired. I think we got a pretty nice "diamond in the rough" for the center-piece. I also picked some extra long branch pieces in case I get an idea as i try an sculpt this thing. I'll be giving it a shape-down with my saw and dremel until i'm satisfied, but overall, i'm pretty happy in what we found and it's general shape. Hopefully i'll get to pressure spray it clean early this week.

As It stands "raw", it's about 6.5'-7' at the tallest point and about 3.5'-4' wide at the base. I'll have to be a careful surgeon as I discect it to fit in the tank then place together again.

As seen in the first shot, my wife is a school teacher so she picked up a lot of loose pieces for her students. I'm not exactly sure what kind of art craft she's preparing, but she was pretty excited hunting these pieces down.

Thanks

And I thought I was nuts with a little 180g Enjoy. I'd love to hear details about your plumbing, lighting, CO2 delivery, etc.

Fascinating project! This should be good for at least a couple dozen posts over the next 6 months. But, you know you are making my little teeny 45 gallon tank seem like a mini-nano. By the way: we should strike a medal for your wife for letting you pursue this hobby to the ultimate end.

Fascinating... does your house have a basement? if so i am wondering what sort of work you had to do so the floor can handle the kind of weight a tank like that would put on it?
