Goodness; so many options with that much space from front to back it's just awesome. Like you said, the ratio is not something you see in the typical tank. That's the kind of space where you could let a Nymphaea lotus go nutz.

This is truly the type of tank that you could let a Lace plant shine! I once had one in the middle of my 75g that had leaves touching both sides of the aquarium... if only it had the space this tank offers! Then picture the tetras and discus swimming amongst the long leaves....

can you tell i am a bit envious? HaHa!

I'm envious of myself! I never thought I'd have a tank like this in a million years. It pays to lurk in forums and Craigslist!

Cheers,
Phil

HaHa, clearly it does... That is one heck of a find.

I think i may have to lurk around the reef forums when I end up getting a house and setting up a Large tank. I LOVE the way the electrical is set up and enclosed with switches for all the outlets!

Any ideas on what kind of substrate you'll be using?

You absolutely should lurk the reef forums, especially the local clubs. They've got some serious deals a lot of the time.

I'll be using old Aquasoil in the back where the rooted plants are going and some well sorted quartz well filter sand in the front for the discus and cories. I prefer well filter sand as it's usually cheaper and available in a larger assortment of grain sizes than pool filter or play sand.

Regards,
Phil

With the dj systems you have to be careful, how many amps you put on them. its not uncommon at all to exceed the 12 amp( legal limit for a 15 amp breaker) on a single circuit. you also have to be careful with GFCIs and those systems. Several types of lights will trip a GFCI, if that happens, you have no power to anything. Many, many people over the years have made those mistakes and come home to a dieing system.

Reefcentral, is about the best place to "lurk", the ammount of info on that site is amazing and most reef clubs have thier own section.

Thanks for the advice Tab, something i didn't even think about until you mentioned it. With that being said, how do all your outlets receive power Phil? Does all of that need hard wired, or are there just a few cords and fingers crossed that you don't blow a breaker?

Thanks for the advice as well TAB. Electricity use is always something to be conscious of with big tanks. That's why I'm condensing my smaller (90, 75, and a 20) into this one. It's really the water bill I'm most concerned about.

That's a good question. I haven't seen the tank in person yet! I do know that the owner had all sorts of electronic gadgets and heavy lighting going when this was a reef. I didn't see any extra outlets in the photos of where the tank sits now. Thankfully for me I won't be running much more than what I typically run on a 90g as far as electricity. I'm sure the two pumps will use up their fair share of juice, but I'm confident that a two socket outlet will be sufficient for this tank's needs.

Regards,
Phil
