Hi House. Another Jeff here. Could you tell me how you've kept the 'sand' valley just that---sand!!...Did you use any divider underneath or in between to prevent the two substrates from mixing or simply placed the sand sand in the middle of the 'eco'.
...Really nice tank Jeff. True eye candy!!..

Another Jeff, O.K. what is it about Jeff and Aquascaping?

There is a pretty solid rock border on both sides that holds back the eco, but some eco does mix in with the sand (especially since I have two kuhi loaches squirming through the crevices - not a good fish to have with multisubstrate tanks), so every so often I use a little hose to clean the sand and replenish it. It's pool filter sand which is extremely cost-effective.

Thanks for those nice comments!

- Jeff

Ok each time I look at your tank then look at mine ,the jungle has to go. It's time for a re-scape. I'm going to try some sort of sand path in my tank, not sure how it will look not as nice as your tank I'm sure of that. You have inspired me to make changes.

Nice looking tank!

You mentioned that you never actually tore the tank down. How did you manage that without suffering any fish casualties?

It was done over phases. I moved some of the rocks that were in the earlier layout to create the two sides. Each time I did this I followed with a large water change. I also had a hose ready and sucked out most of the organics that were stirred up. I did those over several weeks and I eventually formed the valley. Like most things with Aquaria, slow changes are usually best for fish and plants.
