There are many legions of plants from south america. Off the top of my head, there is:
parrot's feather, pygmy chain sword (and relatives), water lettuce, hornwort, certain types of cabomba, tonina, egeria najas, "anacharis," and much more.
I strongly suggest some sort of milfoil. Great plants, easier than some others... Egeria najas is another one worth seeking out. If there is little current, it grows straight upwards and has a nice curled down leaf structure. Egeria najas is really easy to grow.
FYI, I think this forum is specific to LOCAL biotopes, as in, if I live in Denmark, I am referring to plants from Denmark.
In any event, you are not likely to construct an accurate biotope with such a large continent to refer to.

If you are seeking the misguided euphoria of gazing at a window into a chunk of the amazon river, then by all means! Continue! I live in western Canada, but in theory, I could claim to have a North American biotope with my Ludwigia inclinata and Artic mare's tail...
Travelling to one of these areas (not likely) or EXTENSIVELY researching an area is your best bet of getting anything remotely accurate.
