Default My office tank

Hi all, I have been a fish hobbyist for awhile now and never used plants in my tanks. One of my friends asked me to check out Aquaforest here in San Francisco and after I left that place, I wanted to try plants in my tank.

An iwagumi tank seems to be less maintenance and I like how the HC looks as groundcover.

Here are the specs for my office tank:
  • Tank: 3-gallon Eclipse tank (took off the rim, hood and filter)
  • Filteration: Zoo Med canister filter
  • Substrate: Aquasoil Amazoina II Powder
  • CO2: ADA CO2 System 74/YA ver.2 (1-2 bbs)
  • Heat: Marineland 25W heater = 74 F
  • Lighting: Home Depot Special 27W CF (9 hours w/timer)
  • Water Change: 1 gallon a week; pH ~6.8
  • Flora: Hemianthus callitrichoides & Eleocharis acicularis (before), Blyxa Japonica (after)
  • Fauna: 8 Golden Neons, 1 Otto & 8 Red Cherry Shrimps

11/28/2007: About a month old, HC hasn't filled in and hairgrass is too hard to maintain in this nano tank.

11/28/2007: I took out the hairgrass and replace it with Blyxa Japonica because it doesn't grow as fast as the hairgrass.

1/07/2008: HC filled in a bit and Blyxa is started to grow. Sorry for the phone camera shots.

1/29/2008: HC and Blyxa doing nicely.

2/05/2008: HC and Blyxa filled out.

2/05/2008: Top View

Enjoy,

Clinton

Nice tank silverdubb03, the plants are growing really fast and healthy. Blyxa J. is a great plant, shame I can't find it in Mexico City.

I have a question... why don't you fill the tank to the top ? It would look even nicer than it actually is.

Cheers

Someone accidentally bumped my cubicle and the water spilled on my paper work. It try to keep it ~1/4" away from the top and evaporation of the water surface is a lot since my office is around 70-76 F.

Hope you could recover those papers Clinton. I put my nano in a stand at 1.5 ft. from my desk for security reasons but it's an "open" office, in cubicles that's not possible.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing. It looks great and its nice to know I can grow HC under that light...I bought two of em. I am using one on ADA 30cm cube.

The comment about filling it to the top is on point. I wish I filled mine when I took my photos.

I haven't seen an actual cherry shrimp, but I saw that you have 8 of them in your tank. How small are they? Isn't it too crowded? I'm thinking of getting some low maint shrimps in my 5g tank...

Man, you're allowed to plug in appliances at work. Even with water.
Is this your own office.
