Default 9 gallon nano cube, the beginning

hey everyone,
my name is Nick and I am new to the boards here. Thought i would take this opprotunity to show a project from the start, normally its an after thought because i get wrapped up in the process. This is my second planted tank since I moved to MD. The first attempt was with well water containing high levels of Phosphate and Nitrate which proved to be a nightmare. I have sinced moved and I now have an RO system for my reefs. I mix 4 parts RO with 1 part tap for some minerals and what not.

This tank was supposed to be a nano reef for my low light mushrooms and some little fish that would get lost or eaten in my big system but it ran so hot I gave up. It is a 9 gallon NanoWave by aquamedic with 48 watts of PC light built in. With poor ventilation and no fans this tank reaches 86 degrees by the end of the day. I will be modifying the hood soon to add at least one fan. I have taken the protein skimmer out and hope to make it into a CO2 reactor at some point.

I chose Eco Complete as the substrate because a friend of mine has used it with success and I liked the color. I normally use lateralite under gravel but did not have enought leftfrom a previous tank. I always used Substrate Gold Lateralite but I hear that company went under years ago.

this is with The EcoComplete, wood and rock

15 min later with most of the plants.
