Hi again. I do not use the filter on the finnex anymore. I am using an Ecco 2234 Eheim. I am however using it on the cube tank/shrimp tank on the right, instead of the Red Sea nano filter, because it's bigger. It's a good little filter. No carbon is needed in a planted tank, except perhaps at start up for a week or so. Then remove it. I do use some biological filtration substrate made by Eheim in it, just a small handful. As far as filter pads for it, I use the original black sponge, which I rinse. And I use a white piece of fine filter material. I'll post a link to it. It's one big piece, and I just cut it to fit. I rinse it with water changes, sometimes once more per week. I change to a new piece when it won't clean up anymore. This is just to catch fine particulate matter.
here's the link~

the substrate{not necessary, but just added biological in the filter, since I am always cleaning the pads}

And I love the little tank!

The good parts~
it's well made
easy to maintain
nice looking

The bad parts~
high light plants won't grow under only 13 wts of PC
Get extra bulbs! The bulbs might be hard to find, unless you get them from the same place
It wasn't free.
p.s. I am growing HC in this tank, which is considered a high light plant by many people..soo....you be the judge

Hmmmm, I can't believe I couldn't find it. I usually pride myself on my search know how... ah well, thanks for the links everybody. I already ended up with an ADA 30C that I am working on now. The real question though, should I get the finnex for my girlfriend and wait for her to get frustrated of taking car of it then snatch it back... hehe.

I am amazed at how much you put into these little tanks. It really is making me reconsider my iwagumi layout I just did.

Thank you for the very nice compliment Ravenous. I love the hobby, and love tinkering in my nanos. I try to keep my hands out as much as I can though.{learned that from sw reefkeeping}
In nano tanks the oils from your skin, any airborne chemicals{incense,candles,cleaners,bug spray, etc} can be problematic. Well in any tank really.

Most amazing and gorgeous tanks I have seen. What are the plants? What lights are you using?

The pic was before I received the fissidens from you. Actually, no, it did not work. I put the fissidens in both of my 20 gal tanks.
I put some peacock moss over the cave. Only reason was that the moss was a large piece, and the fissidens were small pieces. Once it grows out I may move some in there. The flow is kind of kickin in that little tank, and it might have pulled it out into the filter. But thank you, it is very nice and green and clean!

Come on, that just can't be true...but thanks so much for the compliments. Gosh..what plants? There's a bunch of different ones..and I forget alot of them, because I have been removing and replacing different plants for a year now. I can tell you some of the plants, if you like. The light over the cubes is a Nova Extreme, 2 X 24 wt T-5. The lights over the finnex came with the tank, they are two 13 wt PC fixtures.{only one fixture really came with it, I bought a second one from the same guy} One is run on a 3 hour mid-day burst.

I like that little terracotta thing. Mind posting a pic of the finnex so that we can see the two lights on it?
