Default 6 gal heaven

So I recently decided to use my 6 gal quarantine into a nano planted tank. I found it to be extremely fun, and I learned a lot I didn't know before.

A couple key tricks I learned was using a sponge between the water I was pouring and the tank itself, this led to minimal substrate disturbance, after that I found by tapping the surface of the water with the sponge allows the sand on the top to fall down, my best guess is it causes a rapid change in the water tension leaving no floaties! This pic is right after I filled the tank

For substrate I used Miracle Grow Organic potting soil, mineralized it ofcourse. On the bottom of the tank I put eggcrate and topped the soil with a fine black sand. My first attempt at filling led to a hug mud pit in a tank.

P.S If anyone could identify the plants that would be awesome. I know the grass in the back left is not an aquarium plant. I found it in a ditch about a month ago and its been doing fine.

Hope you like

Are you running CO2 or just using the organics in the substrate, and what is your lighting (type and wattage) intensity? If it's a low-light setup with natural CO2 production I suggest letting the fern be your main plant with something like Fissidens moss or maybe some Anubias 'nana-petite' to go with it.

On that note, I noticed a neat thread on lighting cycles in the DFW club sub-forum that you may be interested in reading.

Later,

Darren

I'm not running co2, the filter is a sponge so I'm getting adequote surface aggitation, id say I'm getting 2 Watts per gallon. Which really has no meaning but that's how intense it is

Could it be the cap? I used Estes marine sand, which is just a coloured non toxic fine sand

Could it be an iron deficiency? Also in Aaron Talbot's post o. How to mineralize he said not to use potting mix, does this include organic? I
Not worried about toxins bbecause I don't plan on adding any inverts for awhile. Although I had some appear snails in there. They seem to be doing fine
