This is my tank about 2 months ago. its an 8 gallon finnex tank and Im really torn about the foreground. I tried bright sand (bare) and HC. The HC's height really looked funny to me. The contrast in height from HC to my hairgrass was too abrupt. Now, Im thinking either let the hairgrass grow in and keep it short or find some E. Parvula. What do you guys think? Any criticism is welcome as well and I apologize for the crappy picture with equipment.

Nice lil tank you got there, buddy If I didn't know better, I would think that was a bigger tank; maybe a 10-gal or 15!

If anything, I think the sharp contrast in height bet. HC and hairgrass would make the scene all the more interesting. One thing about small tanks is to try to keep things simple. You can perhaps add some Crypt parva or Anubias nana petite here and there as accents to give it a finished touch. Otherwise, I really don't see any problem with using HC in the foreground.

I think I might give HC another go at it. Ive got a BIG "little" project Im currently working on. Its like nothing that has been done before!! This project is slated for mid February and Im really excited to start it. Thanks for the kind words Paul. Cant wait to see the wabi kusa demonstration!

You need to add fauna that's worth looking at.....maybe a discus or something.

Im thinking more along the lines of a Pacu or a FW stingray or maybe a colony of tropheus.

Pacu maybe....there's not enough "bottom" for a stingray to lay and a colony of trophs will probably eat that grass of yours.

I would'nt add anything that would grows big in this tank. It'll take too much away from your aquascaping.
A group of small tetras or barbs would be my choice.

I think mini riccia pushed into a blend of standard size riccia on stones just starting mid forground. Work it into the hair grass to give a soft transition

I kinda like it bare. You really see the contour of the substrate that you have (I an only assume) magically kept in a mound. Also, how do you keep your hairgrass contained?

Really though I like the foreground bare, maybe some small crypts as was mentioned before.
