Plant Points: 21910 | Rita Is Almost Here! To all NASH members! Unfortunately Rita is heading this way and is going to hit us hard! Please take your precautions and be aware that we may not have Power for many days. My personal advise is to disconnect the filters just so when the power comes back it won't pump all the decay water back in the tank. Remove the top and lower the water level to 2 thirds of the tank capacity. I wish you all the best and if you are to be evacuated from your Home please keep in touch after the Hurricane, Just to make sure you are OK!
I wish you all the best and please take care and use common sense no matter what you do.

Plant Points: 3600 | Thanks Luis, I was wondering what I should do about my aquarium equipment (turn off vs leave on). I'll take your advise. |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 4100 | Go buy water and supplies, keep them in a safe place.
We have eathquake kits here in CA for good reason.
I keep 10 gallon of water, more cliffbars than I know what to do with and other foods. Backpacking, hunting and knowledge of the outdoors, guns etc has it's advantages and can help if you have some of the type equipment and supplies.
Cat 4 and it's not going to get weaker in the next day or so, probably stronger looking at surface temps for the Gulf. the temps are warmest near the Texan coast. I just checked the temps off the satillite and it looks ugly over the the next day or so.
This appears to be another Katrina except I think this one will hit further south/west into TX, maybe N Mexico. I do not see this storm weakening till land fall.

Tom Barr |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 42800 | Guess you guys beat me to it. A latest update:
Rita is now a Cat 5 storm. Yes, stronger than Katrina was. And look what it did to Nawlins~ So, prepare enough and prepare well, people. Highways have been jam-packed so if you could, try to do things as early as possible. Wal-Mart opens 24 hours. If you know of any other place that opens 24 hours you could also post them here. And no, I am not talking about IHOP:P
Best of luck to everyone and may God watch over us even more closely this weekend. |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 4100 | Run! 175 mph winds with faster gust and the 3rd strongest hurricane ever........based on 879 mb of pressure.
That would make your ears bleed.
They said a potential 50ft surge. That will wash away about anything.
Pray, run, stock up.

it seems that an awful lot of hurricanes have recently been forming!
We thought that Camille
was such a big deal,
But Katrina
turned out to be much meaner
And now there is one to beat her
and its name is Rita.
I wish that a cat. five would blow Washington away.
Then maybe our government would see the light of day.
But, right now we will spend our money on fighting evil axes
and pay for hurricane repairs by lowering taxes. |

A weatherman in Idahoe actually believes this and reports it as such on television where he is the weather anchor and on a WEB site.
On the news they said the temp of the water in the gulf is over 80 degrees. Isn't that normal still? It is the warm water of the gulf that jacks up the hurricane. Galveston had a major hurricane that killed 8000 people... back in what the 20s or something? Did we have global warming back then?
When Rita hit Florida it was only a cat 1 or 2, a cat 5 would have wiped it out. It ramped up to 5 once it got into the warm water

<880mb, that's unreal.
Global warming, it's amazing that anyone couldn't belive that the globe isn't warming. Hell, just look at the climate data and it's obvious the mean temp has increased. Right now it's oceanic warming that people need to be most concerned with. Hot water = strong hurricanes.
God Bless,
Phil |
