Default Dumb question

My plants won't stay put. They're doing better since I got the ferts going and some Excel, but I just can't get them to stay put!

I've got some floating cabomba, a rotala that's weighted, so it's okay, but my crypts and anubias come out of the substrate at pretty much EVERY water change. The anubias is handling it okay, but I know the crypts can be a little finicky about being moved about. The water disturbance is unavoidable since the tank is just a little 2.5g Minibow.

Right now I just have gravel mixed with laterite for substrate about 1.5" thick. The gravel is pretty coarse, probably about 5mm size. Not the ideal stuff, but that's all I had available at the time.

Any way I can keep these in the gravel without major "renovation"?

you should tie the anubias to a rock or piece of wood.
i dont think you're supposed to bury the rhizome on anubias.

never had crypts so i can't say.

With a tank as small as yours you should be able to diffuse the incoming flow of water by simply placing your hand under the flow. It should help some.

As far as keeping things rooted you don't have very much substrate in your tank. 2.5-3" of substrate would go a long way in keeping things rooted. Since you have gravel, try adding some more gravel to the tank and see if that doesn't help. Even another 1/2" would be a help. With such a shallow substrate you would definitely benefit from tying your Anubias to a rock or small piece of wood.

I'd recommend adding something with a smaller grain size. Also, there are plant weights you can buy.

Control your flow when doing a water change, and possibly add more/different substrate.
