I like a tank with some plants not a lot. What would you do to this tank? Just say it like it is. I am a newby newby
I saw these two rocks (15"h and 8"h) and I thought they would look neat. As you can see I put slate on both of these so they would not float which I can move. The Discus love to go in and out of them. What about a third rock of some shape and size?
The balance is off in both pictures. I am not sure what to add. The one pic had swords which had so much hair algae I did not want to leave them in there until I dosed them with PP. The second pic I just stuck a fake plant for the fishy's to hide in. I have kept the tiger lily short but I still bet it will grow up. Not sure if that means I will eventually only see stems. There are some sm crinum C. behind the short rock. I want to get Crinum Natans also. I have a small amount of Wendetti red. I am not sure if I like the swords but if they would help with the balance well ok.
I have wood but was not sure if I wanted to mix rock and wood.
The wood I have is 12"h
I have Fissiden F and Christmas moss that live in a bowl for now not sure what to do with them.
Idea's needed badly. Being new to this I can't seem to complete the picture.
Oh I have a glass ashtray in there also (no laughing). I use it to put the sinking wafers in. Discus blow air at there food and the ashtray contains their mess.
The light is a 96w 6700k
Tank is a 45g (24"t)

I like the look of the first pic, with the exception of the tall rock on the right. I would probably remove it & replace it with a piece of the larger wood. I think to get more balance you will need to add more plants. Which in the long run is going to help you out with keeping a more of balance tank in the way of the water parameters.

Why would your rock float??

Of the two pics, I like the top one better, though the 2 rocks in there becomes overwhelming to me. Keep in mind that swords will eventually become tank hogs - they will get HUGE.

As Trena said, I would definitely suggest more plants. How big is that tank?

The rock is pumas. I agree the rocks are over powering the tank. I will have to think this over. The rock can be drilled. The discus love to swim in the rock and peak out the front. I like the tall one. It makes you look right at it though.
The tank is a 45g so it is 24" tall. 96w 6700K. 80 degress.
I got some seachem substrate in brown and black from a friend. I hope to tone down the white in the rock I have.
I have been thinking about Cryptocoryne spiralis, retrospiralis, balansae and Cabomba caroliniana or Limnophila sessiliflora.
I want to put my fissiden F back. It is growing on small pieces of wood and gets lost in this bigger tank. I moved up from a 26g.
