Default WOW>>>What to do.....

Hi everybody.....plant have been in the tank for 6 weeks now....[75gal-diyco2-130watts of lighting]. Well, the plants have gone crazy. I've been taking cuttings from my bunch plants, an cuttings from the runners on all the swords. No complants...MY question is, what do you do with all your trimmings. I really hate to trash'em. Have given to everybody that wants them...any ideas....thanks..

Hi Lionhead,

I have the same problem, my tank has been set up about 2 months and the plants have gone crazy in the last 2-3 weeks. I belong to the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (GSAS) and they are having their big annual auction on Saturday and I'm taking 18 bags! Some suggestions might be: you could join a local aquarium club; sell or barter them at your local fish store; offer to sell or trade them here a APC. Good luck!

I trade them for various things or store credits from several of the LFS near me most of the time. Sometimes I ship them to people too.

You can almost always find a buyer in the for sale forum here. You don't get rich, but eventually you accumulate enough in your PayPal account to buy something nice. I just listed some willow leaf hygro for sale and sold it in about 4 hours, but for a profit of only about $6 for about 30 stems. It sure beats just trashing the cuttings.

If you join a local aquatic plant club you can give or trade them away there too.

If you can't find a buyer here you can usually find a taker here and give them away free (they pay postage). Some people are starving college students and need the help - or are setting up a big new tank and need tons of plants. I also have found that people that work at the pet stores need plants too. I have given a lot away that way.

By far my favorite option! In a club of dedicated plant geeks the trades you can get in return can sometimes be phenominal.
