Default first planted tank


hi its gonna be my first attempt on a planted tank its a 10 gal, if you see any faults in this dont be scared to say as i need all the help i can get along with advise.

plants:
taxiphyllum barbieri
eleocharis acicularis
sagittaria subulata
vesicularia ferriei
lemna minor

equipment:
*cheap filter* for water movement
*diy co2* if needed
100w heater
branchy piece of bogwood
few nice stones

fish:
5 tetras or white clouds

i was thinking could i use like a desktop light or clip on spot light with a high wattage(100-200)bulb or two.i am going to use peat and that planting gravel thing but will plant tabs and liquid ferts be needed sorry for all the questions but its my first attempt. also any advise and help would be greatly appreciated trying to stop the cost going through the roof as im only 14 thnx

50w heater will be fine for 10g. For lights it depends on the wattage your talking about(use the actual watts not the comparable incandescent wattage) and also depends on if your going to use ferts and how much maintenance you want.

I'm using 2x 20w CFL spiral bulbs on my 10g(each is 100w equivalent), I need ferts b/c I'm getting algae and my nitrates are 5ppm even with only 6 hrs of lighting a day.

thnx for your reply the bulbs i can get are 100 or 200 just abit exspensive but it will be worth it,i think i will use tabs and liquid fert

You could use a clip on shop light with a 6500K screw in CF bulb, which you can buy both from Lowes for around $10.

Here is a interesting read on "Minimum Light Threshold" that you might want to read before deciding on the light fixture.
