Default Does my setup look alright?

Hey guys,

I just started an all planted tank, and I don't have many options for plants since I am only 15. I have four types of plants in there (forgot the names, however you do see Java moss and Rotala).

I was just wondering how it looks so far because the plants were just barely surviving when I brought them into this tank.

The specs:

Low tech
No ferts
No C02
One red sea nano filter
Hagan Elite filter (black one)
14 watt spiral flourescent in a black desk lamp
2.5 gallon tank
50 watt heater

Do you guys think that my plants would flourish?

Thank you in advance for your input.

I think you need to put some roots tabs in the substrate and add several small fish and LOTS MORE plants if you want a flourishing low-tech tank.

If you want the plants to flourish, they need food. With the few that are in there, probably a few fish with a healthy diet might do the trick. Take some time and browse the "El Natural" forum on this site if you really want a good low-tech, low-maint tank.

I have baby guppy's and over 150+ RCS in my 30G, how many of each would do the trick?

I'm new to the planted aquarium realm, but the plants will feed on whatever waste your fauna offer. With 2.5 gallons to work with, I would start with just a couple guppies and a half dozen shrimp and give it some time. You might try to find some low growing plants like Marsilea, but I say that only because I like the fully covered look and am biased.

I'm glad to see so many posts on new setups. I'm beginning one myself in the next week or two and have gotten a half-million ideas this week alone (exaggeration of course) by cruising through the forums.

Davemonkey and Dwalstad have been helping with the do's and don'ts, including on a 20 gallon I was having trouble with.
