Default Im New! And Excited!

I googled aquarium plant forums and this was the top site, and by looking at the number of posts and replys on the forums, I should be able to learn all my heart desires!
Ive recently been getting into the aquatic plant side of the aquarium hobby, and have been really enjoying it. Ive also been doing a bit of reading on google about it.
And with most things it seems: a little bit of knowledge is usually a bad thing!
So ive come searching for a place to ask all my silly beginner question!
I really got into the whole plant scene for two reasons:
I came across a read somewhere that mentioned a healthy tank with plants shouldnt really have algy isues for the most part. (I didnt have any major issues befor) and that the plants will compete with the algee for food.!
And the second reason was because I was offered a bag of jave furn. then when searching for free plants, and got a big bag of verns <? maby?

Anyway, I probly did a bad thing, and went to the petstore I perfer, and bought like 60$ (canadian) in plants!
I had a busy weekend when I got ALL these plants, and just threw them in the tank as you can see in the first pic:

Last night I finally had the time to redo the whole tank, and set them up:

I have alot of plants, (to me) and not really any experience.
From when I gather, The plants consume CO2(posion??) in the day, and expell oxogen(for the fish)
But at night, they consume the oxygen, and produde CO2.
The plants get energy from the light, and sugers and such from the co2.
Co2 is produced naturally at night from the plants, and 24/7 from the fish, and other waste in the gravel/filters.
How am I doing???

Looking forward to the replys!
Ill be checking back often!!
Alan

ps. I plan to change the arrangement of the tank around regulary untill I get it just right! I would love to add some "height" by mabyy getting some of the plants to grow on the rocks and logs up higher. But I dont have a clue which plants would work best for that. Im not even sure I planted any of the plants properly!! EEK!

pps. Im gathering a complete list of the plants and fish for reference.....

Nice amount of plants you have there

If you want plants that will grow on rocks, you already have some. The java ferns will happily grow attached to any surface. Use cotton thread or fine fishing line to tie the rhyzome onto the surface and wait until the roots have firmly anchored until cutting the tie line.

Another plant you might want to try, given that I understand it is difficult aquiring plants in Canada, would be an Anubias; such as the Anubias Nana.

Then you could try java moss or riccia fluitans.

Try here for how to diy CO2 and here's a great way to get the CO2 into the water.

Wow looks like you're off to a great start, i recently began, and am still battling some issues. But anyways, I'd be interested in seeing your plant list when you get the time. Also, thats a good amount of plants for around $60! where'd you get them from?
