I was going to guess it does not need that much light cause that dark green color... maybe I should get some and make it like a lawn.

I don't know about the lawn part man . Not only is it going to take a while to get a nice tight lawn going, it gets moved rather easily + it's somewhat delicate; breaks easily if you you’re a tad rough with it and it kills the look IMO.

If you try I'm curious what you come up with.

true. the root structure does not seem that 'deep', and if I'm too rough around it it pops up out of the substrate. It adds a new leaf every so often but so far no runners. making a carpet would take quite a while I suspect.

An interesting thing about this plant here in MN is that it stays green all winter, drill a hole in the ice and there it is. Kind of silly to drill a hole that close to shore though, ice fishing wise at least and there are not a whole lot of other reasons to be standing on a frozen lake drilling holes in the ice in sub zero temps. You would also spend a couple days drilling holes until you found some.
