Default Palundarium

This is something new for me. It combines my love of terrestrial plants w/ aquatic plants + aquatic critters. I'll probably be doing some major changes, but here's what I've done so far.

First, is a beginning photo. I just wanted to show how I built up the gravel on one side & used jars as "shelfs" to place terrestrial plants on. (I totally moved stuff around, but this will give you an idea of what I was doing.)

Here's a pic of just the terrarium side:

The fern is a Kangaroo Paw fern& the orchid (which is hard to see, but is in the upper right corner of the pic) is a Jewel orchid. Then there are different mosses placed here & there. Major rocks shown: smokey quartz, garnets in matrix, & a rose quartz.

I put an Anubias just slightly under water on the shallow side, hoping it would grow emergent (which it has):

Note the water is no longer cloudy- this is the first 24 hours.

This sorta gives you an idea of the whole tank. It was a 30G aquarium. I figure the aquarium part now actually has a net of 7Gs of water.

There's a piece of driftwood that's above & below the water. That's a large marble slab in the back of the tank. I will probably remove it, because it cuts down on the light coming into the tank from the east facing window that's behind the tank. There is also a south facing window that is on the right side of the tank.

Here you can see it's clearing:

I added a new piece of driftwood to the tank:

Here's a close up of some other rocks- I don't know what they are, but they're pretty. :

That's a little bit of Riccia there at the bottom (& duckweed). I was hoping the Riccia would grow emergent, & it is! (So is the Anubias & a sword.) Here's a more recent pic- you can see the Riccia emerging:

I really am enjoying it, but will probably remove the marble slab that is at the back of the aquatic area. I miss having the light coming in directly from that east facing window. I will probably create a better cave for the fish tho'. Need to add more terrestrial plants, too.
