Default PPS-PRO in all crypt tanks? (with pictures)

I've been trying to find the ideal dosing for an all crypt, no-CO2 10g tank (100% ecocomplete substrate). I'm interested in trying this method but am wondering if its best for my setup.

I've read that crypts get a majority of their nutrients from their roots, so water column fertilization is not as important. How much truth is their to this? Has anyone adjusted their PPS dosing for an all crypt tank?

Currently, my crypts are happy enough, but so's my algae, so something in my setup needs to change. I'm just not sure if I should be adding more of something to get a balance, or trying to remove what I have. Thanks for the help!

I find that submersed crypts respond quickly to fertilization of the water column. In my experience, they do not like heavy doses or high levels of nutrients. Keep them just a bit hungry. A good plant to grow with them is Hygrophila polysperma. If the Hygro is growing, then there is enough for the crypts.

Hi aleph
There is no need to adjust PPS for Cryptocorynes. We grow amazing Crypts with and without CO2 and also under low and very high light.

PPS-PRO:

In 1 litre bottle #1:
59 grams K2SO4
65 grams KNO3
6 grams KH2PO4
41 grams MgSO4
Fill up with distilled water.

In 1 litre bottle #2:
80 grams of TE Mix, CSM+B or equivalent
Fill up with distilled water.

Dose every morning, gallon / 10 [in ml].

Example:
For 100 gallon aquarium dose 100 / 10 = 10 ml. Dose 10 ml of #1 and 10 ml of #2.
For 50 gallon aquarium dose 5 ml.

No need to change water unless your NO3 or TDS goes too high. No other testing necessary. Enjoy.

Thank you
Edward

Hi
According to Tropica.com and APC Plantfinder, Cryptocoryne beckettii 'petchii' grows up to 10 to 15 cm, 4 to 6 inches. Here we have this beautiful Cryptocoryne growing to 42 cm, over 16 inches high. About 3x larger.
This is in inert substrate with little peat moss and PPS-PRO fertilization.

Hi,

I have previously used PMDD containing K2SO4, MgSO4 and TE all combined in one bottle.Due to a shortage of phosphates and nitrates, I have recently had to add KH2PO4 and KNO3. First, tried adding into tank directly , then added to mix, to regulate dosage.
I am soon running out of my mix and am tempted to try the PPS- PRO method/dosage rates, but am intrigued as to the reason for having the Trace elements in a different bottle. Why, can these trace elements not be mixed with the macro elements? Did tests prove this to be necessary?.
I believe it might be due to oxidation of the iron, but have used TE mixed with macros previously with no apparent problems, either in the tank or in the bottle.
I would make a 250ml bottle , which would be a quarter of the quantities shown,at a time, which would last approx a month, dosing 2 tanks.

PS. Have posted this, on this forum because I too am a crypt fanatic.

Regards,
Des.

Hi
Mixing macronutrients with Trace elements doesn’t work well.

Thank you
