Default Lighting Info

I was looking into the 8w/12" t5 lighting. Will this be enough to grow plants?
I have not jumped in yet as I still have to get the substrate, and lighting but want to get away from the PC. it is a 2g, so I am assuming that the 12" T5 would be more than enough? With 16w t5. I have to check and see if I can sneak a little more into the set up.
Any advice is good advice right now... TIA

I think they recommend 2 to 5 watts per gallon as a starting point and but there are other factors to consider. Maybe some others will chime in and add their two cents. Have fun!
