Be aware that if the pair has not laid eggs its impossible to tell male from female.

These fish are also known as "chameleon fish" and change colors a lot. Quite a few look like they are not males but they are not females either. Most likely they are dynamically submissive males - meaing that the next day they may show full colors.

This may not be a female at all for example:

I just generally look at behavior, if when the male does a display and swims off, then if the other fish follows them, I generally take it to be a female. The submissive male who turned out to be my breeding male wouldn't follow the more dominant males back. They're only interested in faking being a female up to a point.

I read if there is a tiniest hint of red in the bottom fins of a dario dario, it is always a male.

I thought I had females cause I see from no red anywhere even in the body but in the bottom fins, to white dario darios.. but it seems they are all male.
