I recently ordered a new T5 lighting set and the one they sent had T5 tubes rated at 12.5 k would these work on planted tanks?

They will probably work, but you may not like how the tank looks with them. Ideally you should use bulbs with a color temperature between about 5000 and 10000K. Plants will grow with a variety of different bulb "colors", but not all of the bulb colors look good to any one person. It is a personal taste issue.

it'll take time for me to get replacement bulbs, I was concerned that my plants may not grow right or die off. has anyone tried 12000k before?
