Default Purigen Dried Out

I left some of my purigen out of water for about 48 hours and now it's totally dry...it needs to be recharged, but once it's re-hydrated and recharged and white again, will it drying out have any adverse effect on anything?

No, I let mine dry out after every recharge. I have 2 pouches and use 1 at a time.

I also let mine dry in the sun for about a week after ive recharged it. I find it helps to get rid of that bleach smell.

Purigen should be fine to recharge and use again.

I've seen Seachem give conflicting responses in reference to allowing Purigen to dry out. There's the answer above, and then there's this one:

Quote:
Sometimes when Purigen dries out the small resin beads will crack and break. If this has occurred I would recommend that you purchase some new Purigen. If you need to store it you will want to keep it moist. This can be done in a plastic bag or jar.

Can We get a clarification on this, and what is the "Risk" of the beads Cracking and Breaking?

Thanx!

Typically its not of issue if it dries out. The beads do shrink and can fall through a fine mesh bag. Re-wet the resin and it will expand and will hold well again in the bag. As long as the dry resin has not been exposed to potentially hazardous compounds while being dry it should be okay to use again in the aquarium. If there is doubt don't use it. As far as cracked or broken beads, this does occur on a minimal level but most of these would rinse away upon re-weting. So, really not a catastrophy when it dries but it is best to store moist and away from anything you would not want to put in your tank.
