If you are looking for a bag to hold Purigen, you will need one similar to ours with a very fine mesh. Ours is a 180 micron mesh bag and hold up well during regeneration. You can always cut the bag to make it smaller and see if it will fit. We also have 100 mL bags of Purigen and that may fit.

Can the bag be heatwelded? I have a bag sealer that melts the bag closed.

The seams are heat welded seams. So it should work fine.

Could you elaborate more on the compounds it removes? For example, Seachem says (about Purigen) "that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water" and "controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds." What exact soluble and insoluble impurities and what exactly is nitrogenous organic waste?

My obvious question is, aside from doing what sounds like activated carbon can do, when and why would I want to use Purigen? Vague product descriptions are falling on deaf ears here.

Thanks for the kind words John S. We do not have a specific list of chemicals or compounds that Purigen will remove. Purigen will remove primarily organic waste and compounds that are color bodies in water like tannins and humic acid. Nitrogenous waste in a system comes from fish waste, organic debris, fish food, etc. It does not work like a carbon in that Purigen does have more of a focus in removal, can be regenerated, clarifies water, and will not impact minerals.
