Default Flourish Iron daily dose

What would a good daily dose of Flourish Iron be for a heavily planted 75 gallon tank? And are there any risks to fish and inverts if an overdose occurs?

With any iron product the risk is that high levels of iron can be toxic to fish. The same applies to F Iron. Following along with a test kit with your dosing is a good idea. However, if you wanted to dose a heavily planted aquarium daily you could take the total volume dosing for the week and divide it by seven. Dose this daily and see what the consumption rate is over the week. If you find the levels aren't staying high enough then begin to ease the daily dosing up slowly. You should be able to find the proper daily amount fairly quickly for your particular aquarium.

Do mean total volume dosing for the week as in the instructions on the bottle?

If I recall the bottle doesn't say the dosage is for one week.

Alright, so for my 110L tank, I would need (5 ml/200L)*110L = 2.75 mL of flourish iron.

2.75 / 7 = 0.4 mL daily ??

You assumption is correct. The previous suggestion was given in case you choose to set up an automatic dosing system. Regardless of how it is dosed, it is not critically important to maintain a set concentration of 0.6 mg/l of iron. It is more important to dose enough Flourish Iron to maintain some iron in solution (could be 0.2 or 0.4 for example). Keep in mind that our product is very available due to its nature and gets used rather quickly because of this. Testing will come in handy and in a densely planted aquarium you may find that an auto doser will help....or at least daily to every other day additions if dosed by hand.

I must admit to being a bit mystified still. If the product is used rather quickly, then why would the instructions on the bottle be for once weekly dosing?

Would a person with 110L tank have any iron left by week's end if they only dosed 2.75 mL after a water change at weeks' start, as suggested by the bottle's instructions?

Update: I found the suggested dosing schedule on your website.

The bottle's directions ARE for daily dosing! So my question is answered. Thanks.

Hopefully, Seachem will answer this also. But, I can venture some guesses. Weekly dosing is easier and can work just fine in most aquariums. The average aquarist just getting into plants will generally want things to be easier. More advanced aquarists are likely to do their own testing/trials anyways, so there is little need to put further information on the bottle confusing the newbies. After all it is just a recommended dosing amount.

That is a complex question with far too many variables to give a yes/no answer too. That would depend on plant selection and their uptake rates, lighting, all other nutreint levels, etc.

But, dosing that much Flourish Iron will add approximately .25 ppm additional Iron to what you already have. I think a lot of tanks, especially the ones without CO2, would do well with this in addtion to what you would get from regular flourish, TMG, etc. Personally, I have added a lot more when I used it in a higher light/CO2 enriched tank. So, once again, more advanced(even just slightly more advanced in my case) aquarists are going to their thing, so why confuse the beginning aquarist.

My two cents I hope that helps!
Matt
