Default Advice on lightly planted 120 g., please . . .

I moved my goldfish from their (heavily planted) 70 g to a 120 g. I also moved half of the potted plants - a large crinium, anubias, and two crypts.

The old tank did well with adding Flourish and Excel, but it was smaller and had way more plants. I sort of consider this new 120g lightly planted with only the 4 large specimen plants. I have the same wattage per gal over them (1.5w) and they are planted in pots of Eco-complete. I feel that dosing the recommended amount of Flourish and Excel for 120gal would be way too much, and wasted (these products are expensive here in Canada!)

Can you give me a dosing recommendation for my tank?

Thank you,
Ci

To be honest, even though you have less plants, it is still a large volume of water. Therefore, we recommend dosing the Flourish and Flourish Excel according to the instructions on the product labels. That is typically the best starting point for figuring out how to dose your tank. To start out conservatively, for example: you can start dosing Flourish (for the volume of water in your tank) once a week, and you can dose Flourish Excel (for the volume of water in your tank) three times a week. From there, you can judge whether to increase or decrease your dosing depending upon the response of your plants.

Ok, I suppose that's the best way. I want the plants to stay healthy, they really make the tank look way better than your average goldfish tank!

Thank for your response,
Cheers,
Cindy
