Question Pond Prime?

Does Pond Prime actually differ from the standard version?
Is it just as suitable for use in planted aquaria?

http://www.seachem.com/Products/prod...PondPrime.html

I have both a 1500gal goldfish pond, and 90, 75, 50, and 10 gallon planted tanks to use it in.

I've read that it is just a really potent formula of Prime.

Thanks for the post There is no difference between the products, except in the dosing instructions. You need much less Prime in a pond due to the difference in it being an open system rather than a closed one. You can use Pond Prime in your aquariums; however, you will want to use the dosing for an aquarium system (1mL per 10 gallons or 2 drops per gallon) rather than a pond system (2 tablespoons for each 600-700 gallons).

I purchased a 2L bottle of Pond Prime. Is it supposed to have these small black flecks in it like a bit of black sand?

Thanks for the good question. It is completely normal for Pond Prime (and Prime, for that matter) to have small black specks in it. The black specks are simply a by-product of manufacturing. Here is a quote from the Prime FAQ web page:

"Q: I think that my Prime might be old because it smells like it went bad...

A: Prime has a very distinct odor that is similar to sulfur which is completely normal. Also, the presence of small black specks is normal."
