Ed - I never really put much consideration into the direction of the strata lines, but I see what you mean and it makes a lot of sense. I would look into changing it except that the current position was the most natural way to stand the rock without having to shove it deep into the substrate.

John - Interesting story about this betta...I gave betta breeding a try once before I knew anything about planted tanks and she was the lone survivor of my only spawn. I did a lot of research going into this 'experiment' and it eventually led me to aquatic plant sites such as this one, so she's basically responsible for my love of planted tanks.

On another note, I should also mention that I supplement the DIY CO2 with about 1mL of Excel almost daily. I've read that HC loves Excel and was wondering if dosing a little more could speed its growth.
