Default Dumb question

My plants won't stay put. They're doing better since I got the ferts going and some Excel, but I just can't get them to stay put!

I've got some floating cabomba, a rotala that's weighted, so it's okay, but my crypts and anubias come out of the substrate at pretty much EVERY water change. The anubias is handling it okay, but I know the crypts can be a little finicky about being moved about. The water disturbance is unavoidable since the tank is just a little 2.5g Minibow.

Right now I just have gravel mixed with laterite for substrate about 1.5" thick. The gravel is pretty coarse, probably about 5mm size. Not the ideal stuff, but that's all I had available at the time.

Any way I can keep these in the gravel without major "renovation"?
