By the way, whatever happened to your 10 gallon Glosso tank? Did you end up giving up on it and stripping it down?
Oh also, I do agree with you on the 40Wattt CFL not being too high on a 10 gallon. While the hairgrass was growing faster I did notice GSA on my tank walls as well as some green algae on the upper areas of my driftwood. Would those be signs to go back to 30 Watts of lighting? For now I have gone back to 30 Watts, but I'm wondering if I should stick to 40 Watts. I think my stem plants would benefit a lot from the extra light. |
Given my terrible experiences with a ten gallon tank I would never try to say what is the right way to handle that tank size. My "glosso" tank became a "no-glosso" tank as I struggled with it. So, I dumped it out, added new substrate - river silt and pool filter sand - and planted it with crypts and some narrow leaf Java fern. At least those plants are still alive and slowly, very slowly growing. But, I took a week off for a trip to Alaska, leaving the tank with only 2 hours of light a day, and I still haven't had the get-up-and-go needed to get back to it. Your success far exceeds any that I have had on that tank.
