I have a couple of questions, if I may?
Why do you use a heater cable? Well, my substrate is very thick (10cm) and I use a mesh between the fertilized layer and the inert one (last on top), with the heating cable there is a slight movement of oxidized water (so I hope). Anyway I have always used it in all of my aquariums and how the saying goes "If it's working, don't touch it.".
25.5C seems a little cool for discus, but I guess they must be ok... Yes it is, but they manage. The thing that seems to bother them most is the bright light. Still, they are laying eggs all around almost every week, so I think they are OK.
