Most of the opinions you will probably get are usually just personal so here is mine.
I think a school of certain fish look great rather than a show fish. I got a 29 gallon that I'm thinking of stocking with the following:
20 Rummynosed Tetras
3 to 5 Corys
1 Bristlenosed pleco
5 ottos
1 to 3 Zebra Loaches (snail control)
