I have been running my 52 gal tank for more than a year using PPS pro and my plants are great. I check my water regularly for KPN and conductivity and have found that you will need to do at least a 20% water change weekly to keep from having an increase in "stuff" in your aquarium.

I would also consider a UV system for Discus. I have one for algae control but I'm sure it would be great for a discus tank as well.
