I dont think the tallness has to do with age. It is more on how packed they are grown together. I had 2 type of sag subulata. The sag they sell at Big als and another type I picked up long ago at another store. The sag at Big Als grows can grow over 4" tall. The sag I have stays around 2". Occasionally, they will send out a really tall plant, but this usually happens when it is really packed and have no other places to go but up.
