Default cherry reds in a 55

I am wanting to establish a colony of cherry red shrimp in a 55 gallon tank. If I started with a colony of 15 or 20 shrimp, would they get lost in a tank that large and fail to reproduce? I notice that it is common to use a smaller tank as a shrimp tank.

Thanks,
Alan

They'll find each other, but you'll have a hard time finding them until the population takes off.

depends on whether you have other fishes in there who will be "snacking" on new shrimp babies.

If it is a shrimp only tank, then you will want to start off with much more shrimps to jumpstart the breeding...maybe at least 50 - 80 shrimps as it is a 55 gallon tank

Most people have smaller tanks to start off the breeding. These small tanks are shrimp only frequently. Once they get a greater population in their smaller 10 gallon tanks, then I think people begin to feel brave enough to add them into their larger tanks that contain fish in them already. Sometimes the fish will eat them, but that's okay...they still have their original breeding stock where they can try again.

If your fish in your tank don't eat the shrimp, the shrimp will find each other and be able to reproduce.
