Default MTS question

Hello,

Are MTS the only snails that burrow into the substrate keeping it aerated? When I had set up both my guppy tank and my betta tank, some snails were in with the plants that look almost identical to MTS but the only difference is that they are just little. The length of their shells are only a few millimeters in size.(about 4-5mm) It's very rare to see them on the plants or the glass. They always stay crawling around on the gravel but normally, I don't see them at all during the day.

Will these little snails so the same job as MTS when it comes to aerating the substrate or should I get a MTS or two for the tanks?

Thank you.

I think given that the snails you have "look" like MTS, it would be a safe assumption that what you have there are baby MTS. Newborn trumpet snails are minute in size.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if they were or not because the ones in my guppy tank have been in there for well over six months and they've pretty much stayed the same size. Are MTS slow growing snails?

depends on how much available food they have. They can grow fast with a lot of excess food in the tank (but then you'll have millions of them soon

I definitely don't want a ton of them so I hope they only stay small. So far, I haven't noticed them being a problem in my tanks.

Thank you.
