New aquascape. Just rescaped my tank, however my mystery snails keep eating my plants which I believe is due to them melting. Want to add more low light/low tech plants to really fill out the mid ground and foreground but I do not want a carpeting plant. Using standard 15W T8 hood, dennerle scampers soil, osmocote plus and dosing flourish excel. Any suggestions?

Since you are feeding and using excel, I suspect you are going to need much more light.

You should be getting enough light from that T8 bulb to grow any low light plants, if you have enough nutrients available to them. And, that soil is advertised as being comparable to ADA Aquasoil, with enough nutrients in it to not need additional fertilizing. I suggest dosing Flourish Excel at 2 ml of it every day, to give the plants adequate bioavailable carbon.

I don't know where you live so I don't know what plants are available to you. If you know anyone who has a planted aquarium you can probably get some of their stem plants free, since they have to be pruned regularly. Use the Plant Finder here to see what plants do well with low light. Aquabid is a good source for low light plants, as is Ebay. You should plant about one stem plant every couple of inches over the whole substrate for best results.
