Default Where should we go for our June 22 meeting?

Hi guys,
Our next meeting is going to be on June 21st, and seeing as it's prime growing season, I'm thinking we should go on a group field trip to see/collect plants. Or snorkel. Or something.

Here are a few ideas for spots to visit, and if anyone knows another spot we might consider, feel free o chime in!

Roger's Lake (Lyme/Old Lyme, CT)—home of the elusive Ludwigia x lacustris, plus an array of interesting other plants like Elatine minima, some kind of Sagittaria (maybe S. teres), and that invasive Glosso species that no one can seem to grow in an aquarium.

Lake Zoar (Southbury, CT)—supposedly contains plenty of Vallisneria americana, populations of Heteranthera dubia, Isoetes, hornwort, and tiny patches of the vicious invader Marsilea quadrifolia (also the more significant invasive species Najas minor, Myriophyllum spicatum, and Potamogeton crispus).

Thoughts?

Roger's lake! Cavan has been telling us about it for years.

I wouldn't mind snorkeling there. Also, my mom got an inflatable rubber boat that we can use.

Question Re: Where should we go for our June 22 meeting?

Hello. I am from Albany, New York and would love to be able to meet fellow aquatic plant hobbyists.

June 22nd is the fourth Sunday of the month. Where do I meet you all and what other questions should I ask?

XD So it turns out that June 22nd is a Sunday... which means our meeting is actually June 21st, a Saturday. Anyone opposed to Roger's Lake?

Jimbo, always good to meet another hobbyist in the area! We'd certainly love to see you at our meeting. We'll probably start to figure out carpools for the trip in the next week or two—Roger's Lake is practically in RI, so you might want to meet up with one of us halfway there so you don't have to drive quite so far. If you send me a PM with your email address, I'll put you on the club mailing list so you'll get all the info

I'm bringing my snorkeling gear and the extras for those who want to go swimming. Also bringing my underwater camera.

We can carpool from my house if you guys would like.

By the way, you need an avatar Amanda! 5 years is enough time to think on it !

We'll be meeting at 2pm at the boat launch on Roger's Lake on Saturday, for anyone who didn't get the email blast. Hope to see you all there!

Definitely Rogers Lake. There is a "public" beach that provides access.

Also, Devil's Hopyard State Park. Right above the falls is some of the best freshwater snorkeling on the face of the earth. Cold though.

...And especially cold this time of year, when the seasonal lag hasn't caught up to the warm air. Probably something to save for a later trip LOL. But I'm sure we'll have fun at just Roger's Lake.

Well the lake was definitely worth going to. I am pooped from the swim across the lake and all the sun we got. Will post photos later. Also, congrats on collecting the rare glosso species Amanda.

It wasn't just the glosso that made me happy (no one seems to be able to make it grow in an aquarium anyway)—I'm also thrilled to have gotten my hands on Elatine minima, Juncus pelocarpus (I think), another locality's Vallisneria americana, and so on. Fun collecting trip, but exhausting! I haven't actually swum a mile in... I don't know how long. o_O.
