Hey gang,

Does anyone know of a good, inexpensive R/O unit? It doesn't need to be fancy or produce a ton of water. Even 5-10 gallons a day would be fine.

Is there a way to DIY a R/O system?

TIA.

Best wishes,
John Wheeler

I use a spectrapure that I have had for at least 3 years. I make about 90 gallons of water a week in order to do water changes on all my tanks. In the winter it takes about 2 days to do this amount. In the summer, about 15 hours.

Sorry, but I have not heard of a DIY RO unit.

Around here in NW PA Culligan will rent you a r/o unit for about $20-30 a month which includes new filters which they come in and change once a month. Plus you get the added bonus of drinking water as well. I do not use them but I have several friends who do and they are quite happy with the service.

Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them...

For $140, which is the cheapest that I've found online, I can get my own. Buying makes most sense I think. Further, I'm asking because I plan on doing a SW algae tank in the near (hopefully) future, and my tap water won't suffice. As long as I have it, I figure I may as well use it for the plant tanks as well.

I'll prolly just break down and get a good one, but if there was a deal that I couldn't pass up I'd like to know about it

That's a good suggestion though, Wally, thanks.
