I have two drilled tanks (diy) with 3/4" Rainbow Slip Bulkheads. One end of the bulkhead is basically flat and the other has a threaded section with a sort of plastic nut to screw down to one side of the glass. There is also a rubber gasket in between these two layers. So, which end goes in the tank, the flat end or the threaded end with the nut? Also, where does the rubber gasket go, inside or outside the tank? And finally, do I silicone the bulhead to the glass? There is adhesive on the bottom of the flat portion of the bulhead but, do I need to use silicone as well to prevent leaks? Thanks.

Ah Hah! You're supposed to put the plants IN the water...

No one ever answered you, so here it goes.

With a bulkehead, it's kinda like a bolt and a nut.

What you have to do is put the gasket onto the bolt. Place the bolt into the hole from the inside of the tank such that the head of the bolt is inside the tank. Then use the nut to tighten the assmbly from outside the tank.

Silicone is not needed. The gasket should do everything you need it to to prevent water from leaking out of the tank.

OK, the orignal post was in July. I know.... I woke the thread up. I felt this should be ansered so others can search the forum with the same question It just popped up during a search of an unrelated topic.

Hey Karl,
Thanks for the reply and tip. Better late than never!

The opinions expressed in this post do not reflect those of this member of the forum, the author of this topic, the topic itself, the moderators, the all wet thumb community, the United States of America, or the Human Race itself. They are the opinions of the space monkey shown in my Avatar. He tells me what to write so, blame him. Have a great day.
