| A 48" tank will cost pretty much the same no matter what size you do. If your going 4' with budget in mind, go 75gallon.
They are 48" long x 18" wide x 20" high, add some substrate and that give you a square, the best dimentions to work with.
The 48" 50G is ok, but you will find the 13" depth to be a seriously limiting factor design wise. It will get very annoying. I had one once, sold it 3 weeks after I set it up.
