Not a fish vet and I have zero experience with mouth "fungus," but I researched this disease just now. Mistergreen's suggested link is a good one and I hope you read it. Kanaplex was a recommended treatment.

Columnaris is caused by gram-negative bacteria, not fungus. Erythromycin treats gram-positive bacteria, so that explains why it didn't work.

One fish disease authority (Ed Noga, DVM) also recommends a salt bath (10-30 ppt for a few minutes to up to 30 minutes depending on how well the fish tolerates salt). If fish doesn't tolerate it well, use lower dose and repeat the bath the next day.

To get 10 ppt salt, you have to add 10 grams to a liter (~quart) of water. And one level teaspoon of salt (NaCl) weighs ~6 grams.

If your fish aren't dead by now, it's probably not columnaris. When in doubt, a salt treatment should work.

Update: Did a Kanaplex routine/treatment over about 6 days. By the end of the treatments, The rainbows STILL had some white growth on their lips, but it is diminishing. Two days ago, I gave them a salt dip. Still there, but almost gone now. Despite all the torture I have put them through, they remain active and seem otherwise healthy. The tank is doing good. I need to just let all the fish in this tank alone for a while. For now, everybody seems happy! Thanks for all the advice to everybody on this forum who has helped me. This tank has been running for a little over three months now and seems to be reaching a nice balance.

Glad to hear these good results from a conscientious fish-keeper.
