Default Cleaning old tank glass

Hey everybody, I'm getting back into the hobby after 2 years and looking at my aquarium glass, it's pretty bad, it's a mix between calcification and old green dust algae. I'll admit in getting ready to move I neglected keeping up on cleaning my tank.

So my question is, what's everyone's recommendation for cleaning all of that stuff off?

Soak it with white vinegar then go after it with a razor blade or steel wool.

I agree. White vinegar with paper towels placed over the glass to keep the vinegar in place works well. Then I use a glass safe fish tank plastic scrubber to remove the gunk. Usually its gone in 1 treatment. Some stains cannot be removed if they have penetrated into the glass.

1 part plain dawn dish soap
1 part warmed white vinager

Spray it all over the glass and let it sit for a good long while (watch a movie). Then rinse it clean. You likely won't even need to scrub.

I don't know if you can get Melamine Foam where you're at. Its great for scrubbing off calcium build up from glass. Just make sure there is no sand grain for it to pick up.

You can use some vinager or citric acid to remove the scale

I've done white vinegar and water mix. I fill up the tank to the rim, and let it sit overnight. The next day I scrub it down. Most of it is removed like dust. There really has never been any difficult scrubbing.

i had bought this tank awhile back from a reeffer and it had at the top some very bad calcium deposits nothing worked on it. so what i did was i got a mouse sander and used toothpaste...the one with baking soda and used the buffing pad on the sander and it came off. gotta be carful though.. i hit the whole inside of the tank and glass came out brand new . there is some paste you can buy to buff it but the toothpatse worked

Just be careful with kitchen scrubbers in general, not all of them are safe. Some of them add grit to the pads which can scratch up glass badly. I'd test out any scrubber on a spare piece of glass before using in your tank, just to be sure!
