Default marineland 350 adding valve to feed more to biowheel?

I would like to add a valve to the outflow line so i can get more water to the duel bio wheels, has anyone done this? Could this damage the filter? I have a betta in the tank and would like to reduce current some. This is a 29 gallon tank planted lightly.

Also it seem that marineland is not making the 350 anymore, what would be a good replacement filter and could i plumb the bio wheel into the new filter i like them and thing they really help.

I know its a lot of questions, thanks for your input in advance. wish all a great day.
