Default UV Sterilizers

I have a 50 gallon with geen water as thick as pea soup. I'm told a UV sterilizer will fix this. Any advice on what to look for in a UV device. I'd like to keep it simple by having a hang on type. But I am open for suggestions - comments etc. Thanks,
Dave

Coralife Turbo Twist. Run it inline with a pump or canister filter. That should do the trick for you. Make sure you have a canister filter that provides enough flow through the unit. Not too much flow though, you want the water to go through the UV light efficiently.

Thanks for responding. Can it function as a hang on? Is it easy to connect it in-line?

The coralife is run inline, and is very simple to do.

You might want to check out these threads regarding some more UV options, and more details regarding the coralife turbo twist.

I'm sure someone will chime in with more specific information and their experience.

Thanks for the input, John. I have an Ehiem cannister, think it's 2213 (max output 116 gph) and I'm thinking the coral life 9watt. Here's my question; if I hook it up in-line is it ok for the water to continuously run through it even though I'll only have the sterilizer on when I am treating an algae problem? I mean when the GW is fixed (hopefully speaking) I'll probably not run the sterilizer.
Cheers,
DS

If you run the UV off with it still hooked up, it won't cause any major problems. It'll be like a hose extension. Water will flow through it.

One potential problem I see is you'll have to clean out the UV a little more frequently because like the hoses, they can get gunked up some. But other than that, I think you'll be okay running the UV inline 24/7 even with it off.
