Default Air leaking into new HOB filter.

With my 1g tank I purchased today along came with it a small HOB filter made by Meiko Pet Corp.

On the intake there is a knob to increase/decrease the flow of water. The problem is the knob leaks air into the intake causing bubbles to hit the impeller. This causes a lot of noise even on the best setting, about 3/4 open. If I want to really decrease flow (it's too much at 3/4) it's almost unbearable to hear.

Any ideas? I was thinking about using petroleum jelly to help create an airtight seal.

I've had that exact problem before. A little Silicon Grease (found in Home Depot in pluming section) pressed around the little rubber O-Ring will help seal the leak, and hopefully stop the noise.
