Default eheim classic

i just bought a Eheim Classic filter for my tank. The instructions are really naff so it took a bit to set up.

I was about to just start it up until I see the bit about priming it.

a third option was to 'by sucking the hose on the pressure side. Connect the pressure sidehose to the spray bar while the filter fills with water. The pump can be switched on when the water has filled the filter.

I've no idea what this means anyone have the same system and knows what it's on about

I'm tempted to just turn it on

Just fill it to the brim with water in the sink or tub, put the lid on, connect it and then turn it on. That should be enough water to get it primed. It will take some time to work the air bubbles out.

No need to delete it. That is one way to prime it.

Put that tube in your mouth and man-up! A fish keeper that hasn't gotten a mouthful of siphon water is like a mechanic who never has dirty hands. Seriously, I leave my cans dry and then one quick inhale on the exhaust tube and I can always get the QD back together without spilling a drop. Just do it!

Indeed, if you put the canister together empty and give one good suck on the pressure / return hose (that is the one that puts water back into the tank) then it will fill itself in less than a minuite and you will not get a mouth full of fish water - let gravity do all the work for you! Once water starts to come up the pipe out the top of the canister you can plug it in, although I usually lower the return hose into a bucket for a minuite or so and give the canister a gentle rocking to get rid of all the bubbles and milky water before putting it in the tank.

Lol why would you get water in your mouth.
Simply setup the filter, leave the valves open, suck on the disconnect valve on the OUTPUT side, and reattach as the water is filling the cannister. When the water is about full just plug the sucker in. done and done
