Default Need help in setting up a pressurized CO2 system

I am planning to change my Carbo-plus setup to a presurized CO2 systen and I want to put this system on a timer. I know that I need the following equipment, but not sure how to put ii on a timer.

1) CO2 Cylinder (5 lb)

2) Regulator with bubble counter (Regulator from ThatPetPlace)

3) a reactor (Reactor from ThatPetPlace )

I read somewhere that you can use a pump to more the water from the reactor to the tank. Is that the only way to put the system on timer? Also, I don't think the reactor that I have selected will work with a pump.

Please help. Any comments or advices will be greatly apreciated. Thank you.

Jim

In order to put your CO2 on a timer, you need a regulator with a solenoid. The solenoid plugs into the timer and turns on and off at the times you have preset. The regulator you gave the link to contains both a bubble counter and a solenoid so you should be set for the regulator.

I don't have any experience with the Eheim but Eheim generally makes very good products. I think it is more of a diffuser than a reactor.

I think the Reactor 1000 is a very good reactor, but it needs to be used with a canister filter. I'm not sure if you can use it with a power head or not. Here is a link for it:

It is a bit pricey so you may want to do a search in the DIY section for CO2 Reactors. They are easy to build. You could also check the sponsor section of the forum. I think a couple of sponsors had some DIY reactors for sale much cheaper then the reactor 1000. I think some of the Sponsors also sell the regulator you are looking at a bit cheaper then That Pet Place. However, I have always had very fast shipping from TPP.

Hope this helps.

Gomer has posted an excellent step by step on how to build a reactor in the diy forum. It's a sticky, check it out.
